The program included registration, an opening session, addresses from the Graduate School Director and the Head of Peliatan Village, a certificate presentation, a scientific presentation, an interactive discussion, and closing remarks.
The international community service program was scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2026.
Registration began at 8:30 a.m. WITA, followed by the main program until 11:00 a.m.
A one-hour presentation on geriatric health screening was scheduled.
The central focus of this international community service initiative was geriatric health screening as part of efforts to address the healthcare needs of older adults. Geriatric health screening involves assessing health conditions that may affect older individuals and identifying potential concerns requiring further examination, monitoring, or professional support.
In general, geriatric health assessment goes beyond identifying existing diseases. It also considers an older person's ability to perform daily activities, mobility, nutritional status, and physical and psychosocial well-being. Such information can help healthcare professionals identify appropriate services and support tailored to individual needs.
Through its selected theme, the program placed healthy aging and independence at the center of community healthcare discussions. Early identification of potential health problems is relevant to maintaining quality of life and helping families recognize when additional medical consultation or assessment may be necessary.
According to the official event schedule, Dr. Azimah Pilus Ehr was invited to deliver a presentation entitled "Geriatri Health Screening untuk Mewujudkan Sehat dan Mandiri di Usia Senja" from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The session was scheduled to be moderated by Prof. Suryani, followed by an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session from 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
The invited speaker's expertise in preventive medicine and palliative care was relevant to the healthcare needs of older populations. Preventive medicine emphasizes disease prevention and early identification of health problems, while palliative care focuses on improving the quality of life of patients facing serious illnesses through an approach that considers physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
The initiative also provided a framework for engagement between the academic community and residents of Peliatan Village. The official invitation included representatives of Graduate School leadership, study program coordinators, unit coordinators, lecturers, administrative staff, and students among those invited to participate in the community service program.
The program focused on geriatric health screening as its central community engagement theme in Peliatan Village. It connected older adults' healthcare needs with community empowerment and knowledge exchange involving an invited specialist in preventive medicine and palliative care.
Through the "From Malaysia to Desa Peliatan" initiative, the Graduate School of Udayana University connected community engagement with international perspectives on geriatric healthcare. The program aimed to strengthen awareness of older adults' health needs, the importance of early detection, and support for maintaining independence and quality of life in later years.
