Double Degree/Dual Degree Program

In the framework of preparing human resources with a global perspective, based on local wisdom, the Environmental Science Masters Study Program of the Postgraduate Program at Udayana University collaborates with the Faculty of Engineering and Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Yamaguchi University in a Double Degree/Dual Degree Program collaboration. The collaboration is carried out based on a cooperation agreement between the two parties as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Yamaguchi University-Japan and Udayana University, Bali-Indonesia (Appendix 1). This cooperation agreement was signed in early 2007. The cooperation program between the two parties is carried out in various fields such as research and teaching. In the field of education, the Master of Environmental Science Study Program at the Udayana University Postgraduate program is carried out in a shared lecture program and a double degree program. The technical implementation of the collaboration has been stated in the Technical Academic Agreement (TAA) signed by the Director of Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Yamaguchi University and Director of Postgraduate Program Udayana University on August 26, 2011 at Yamaguchi University, Japan. The process of realizing this collaboration is supported by funding from the Superior Scholarship Program from the Bureau of Planning and Foreign Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (BPKLN KEMDIKBUD RI) in the form of a double degree acceleration program, and awarding excellent scholarships.

The implementation of the Double Degree Program collaboration aims to produce academics and professionals who are able to:
  1. Think analytically, synthetically, openly, and have a global perspective and can develop environmental science for the welfare of society scientifically;
  2. Applying environmental science and knowledge in order to support sustainable national development (sustainable development); and
  3. Express their professional appearance in a wider spectrum by linking fields of knowledge or similar professions, and be able to work together across sectors.

Yamaguchi University is one of the leading universities in Japan. Graduate School of Science and Engineering, is one of the departments at Yamaguchi University supported by 73 full professors, and with a competent curriculum, making this program one of the leading National Universities in Japan. The Graduate School of Science and Engineering is one of the pioneers of engineering programs in East Asia. Civil and Environmental Engineering is one of the departments in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering that has received recognition as an international department from the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE) (Appendix 4, Yamaguchi University, Introduction to the Faculty of Engineering and Graduate School of Science and Engineering p. 4). With this acknowledgment graduates from this Department have received recognition from the Association of Engineers (Gijutsu Shiho)

Participants of the Joint Degree Program between PSMIL Unud and the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Yamaguchi University will receive two degrees after completing the program. Master of Science (M.Si) degree from PPs Unud Environmental Science Masters Study Program, and Master of Engineering (M.Eng) from Yamaguchi University Graduate School of Science and Engineering. The awarding of the title has been stated in the Technical Academic Agreement between the Director of the Unud Postgraduate Program and the Director of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Yamaguchi University. In line with the achievement of the two degrees, graduates of the Joint Degree participants will receive two diplomas/diploma and transcripts (Diploma Supplement) from both Unud and Yamaguchi University. Diplomas/Diploma from Udayana University were signed by the Chancellor, and Transcripts were signed by the Director of the Graduate Program, while from Yamaguchi University, Diplomas and Transcripts were signed by the Director of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering Yamaguchi University.

Joint Degree participants will attend lectures at two universities, namely Unud and Yamaguchi University. In the first year students will attend lectures at the Postgraduate Environmental Science Masters Study Program (PSMIL) of Udayana University (PPS Unud, and in the second year at the Department of Civil and Environment Engineering, Graduate School of Science and Engineering Yamaguchi University-Japan. To complete the joint degree program). , in semesters 1 and 2, students must complete core courses with a total of 23 credits credits at PSMIL-PPs Unud, while in semesters 3 and 4 students must take research support courses (optional), proposal preparation, research to the final thesis exam at Yamaguchi University. The learning process at PSMIL is carried out by conducting 14 face-to-face meetings, two exams (mid-semester and end-semester exams), and other assignments to support the achievement of competency (topics of discussion) for the courses. In addition, it is also supported by conducting practical in the field or in the laboratory. Of the total credits that must be completed, there are 10 the same courses between PSMIL PPs Unud and the Department of Civil and Environment Engineering Graduate School of Science and Engineering Yamaguchi University. The 10 courses are held in the form of a Shared Lecture Program (SLP). The SLP is supported by teleconference media that connects lecturers and students at Unud-Bali, Indonesia with Yamaguchi University-Ube, Japan. Thesis is one of the requirements for completing the Master's Program, both at PSMIL-PPs Unud, and at the Department of Civil and Environment Engineering Graduate School of Science and Engineering Yamaguchi University.

Students who take the Unud-Yamaguchi University Double Degree program must complete a total credit load of 40-45 credits, which are taken in the Master Program in Environmental Sciences, Postgraduate Program at Udayana University and Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Yamaguchi University.

Financing for the implementation of the Excellence Scholarship Program has received support from various parties. This support is carried out in the share of financial support, so that there is no overlapping of financing. For the cost of education at Udayana University, and the living costs of students while studying in Japan, are fully supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture's BPKLN Superior Scholarship Program, while the cost of living while studying at Udayana University-Bali is supported by the Center for Remote Sensing and Ocean Science at Udayana University ( CReSOS-Unud).
