Assessing the Protection of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land, Postgraduate Unud in Collaboration with the Secretariat General of DPD RI Holds FGDs

"Rice fields if not given protection will soon become extinct or change functions, against this background, we are deemed necessary to discuss the protection of food agricultural land in Bali in particular and in Indonesia in general," said Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Budiasa, SP., MP, IPU ASEAN Eng as Director of Postgraduate Udayana University (Unud) in his remarks at the opening of the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) "Empirical Research in the context of Preparing Academic Paper for the Draft Law on Amendments to Law Number 41 Year 2009 concerning Protection of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (PLP2B)" organized by cooperation between the Secretariat General of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (Setjen DPD RI) with Postgraduate Unud in the Hall Room 3rd floor of Postgraduate Unud Building, Denpasar, Tuesday (6/2).

This FGD presented four resource persons who are experts in their fields, namely, Dr. Ir. Irman Firmansyah, S.Hut (Expert Team of PLP2B Bill), Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Budiasa, SP., MP., IPU ASEAN Eng (Agriculture Expert), Dr. Ir. I Made Sudarma, MS (Natural Resources & Environmental Economics Expert), and I Wayan Wiasthana Ika Putra, S.Sos., M.Si (Head of Bali Province Regional Development Planning Agency). In this activity, we also invited 30 (thirty) representatives from academia, main and middle subak assemblies from districts in Bali, and related stakeholders.

The purpose of this activity is to explore information and issues of problems and obstacles in the practices of PLP2B management in the regions. In addition, through this activity, it is also expected to explore more deeply the philosophical, sociological, and juridical foundations of PLP2B management as material for the formulation of academic papers in the context of empirical research on the draft law. "Through this activity, we really hope for input from relevant stakeholders to understand how issues occur in the management of PLP2B in the regions, the current situation of its utilization applications in the regions, and the development of the situation going forward," said Sugihanto Rahim, SE., M.Si., as Head of Meeting Subdivision of the Secretariat of Committee II DPD RI. "The results of this discussion will be juxtaposed with the results of discussions on FGD activities at Syah Kuala University and Hasanuddin University, which we will use as a reference in the preparation of empirical research in the context of preparing academic papers related to the draft law related to this PL2PB," he added.

"A little input from you FGD participants will be very meaningful in the progress of this empirical research for the future of rice fields related to food security in Indonesia. Happy discussion," Prof. Budiasa concluded. (bmp)
