Secretary of Bali PUPR Agency Earns Doctorate in Environmental Science by Studying Drinking Water Management in Nusa Penida
Secretary of the Bali Province Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and
Settlement Areas Office, I Ketut Ariantana, ST., M.Si., successfully earned a
Doctoral degree at the Udayana University (Unud) Postgraduate Doctor ofEnvironmental Science (PDIL) Study Program on Monday, August 7, 2023, which was
held in the Hall Room of the Unud Postgraduate Building, Denpasar.
Dr. I Ketut Ariantana, ST, M.Si., successfully defended his dissertation
entitled "Management Strategy for Sustainable Drinking Water Supply
Systems on Nusa Penida Island" in front of the Promoters, Copromoters,
Refuters, and Academic Invitations who were present at the Doctoral Promotion
today and received academic achievement with honors. The paper is a report on
the results of research and analysis in 2022, which later became a requirement
for obtaining a doctoral degree in Environmental Science. Nusa Penida Island,
which is a karst island, requires a management strategy in the provision of
drinking water. The existing Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) is considered
ineffective in terms of maintenance, operational management, and the level of
drinking water service. In the context of sustainability, an integrated evaluation
and analysis of conservation, economic, and social aspects is carried out so as
to produce an effective and sustainable SPAM management strategy.
As a novelty in this research, among others, the source of water in Nusa Penida Island is a mixed spring of meteoric water with limestone subsurface water; the recharge area is a unit of the Nusa Penida Island area; and a government cooperation scheme with the private sector (business entities) is needed in the management and development of sustainable SPAM.
Prof. Ir. Made Sudiana Mahendra, M.App.Sc., Ph.D., as promoter, congratulated and wished him success in obtaining a doctoral degree. "With this, the promise at the beginning of entering PDIL has been fulfilled, namely by taking full time and then fulfilling all academic tasks, so it is proven that today you have completed the academic process on time. I congratulate you and wish you success in obtaining this doctoral degree", he said. (bmp)
