Field Work Lecture: Deepen Theory and Experience, PSMIL Students Visit Nusa Lembongan

The Environmental Science Masters Study Program held a Field Work Lecture in Nusa Lembongan on 7 – 9 May 2022. The KKL activity was attended by 28 students from four concentrations, namely the concentration of the coastal environment, the concentration of remote sensing, the concentration of environmental carrying capacity and the concentration of the tourism environment. PSMIL Study Program Coordinator Prof. Ir. Ida Ayu Astarini, M.Sc., Ph.D, and three lecturers also accompanied this activity, namely Prof. Ir. I Wayan Arthana, M.S., Ph.D (Coordinator of Environmental Science Doctoral Program), Drs.Dr. I Made Sara Wijana, M.Si (Chairman of Quality Assurance PSMIL) and Ni Made Utami Dwipayanti, ST., M.BEnv., Ph.D (Coordinator of Research and Community Service Unit).

Field Work Lecture (KKL) is a learning activity given to students, to add insight and real experience from agencies, institutions or organizations whose duties and functions are closely related to scientific disciplines and competencies developed by the study program. This has a function as a learning method that integrates the theory learned in lectures with direct experience in the field related to existing field case studies. By making direct observations and observations, students are expected to have new insights and new knowledge that can become findings and even research that can be used by stakeholders to improve the quality of a system or management that has been carried out in the area.

During the KKL activity, students received an explanation about the development of seaweed cultivation from the Chair of the seaweed cultivation group in Nusa Lembongan, Mr. Wayan Suarbawa. In addition, students also received an explanation about the ecological and social functions of mangroves in Nusa Lembongan by the Chairman of the Surya Mandiri Mangrove Management Group – Mr. I Wayan Sukitra, as well as an explanation about waste management in Nusa Lembongan by Mr. Putu Asmara.

In addition to receiving explanations from practitioners, students visited directly the condition of mangroves, seagrass beds and coral reefs in Nusa Lembongan, seaweed cultivation as well as processing plastic waste and making compost.

It is hoped that after the KKL activity takes place, students will gain knowledge enrichment and get ideas for research and community service.
