Injecting Refreshments to Leaders and Members of the Denpasar City DPRD, Coordinator of the Unud’s Doctoral Program in Environmental Science Provides Technical Guidance
The Coordinator of the Udayana University Postgraduate Environmental Science Doctoral Study Program (PDIL), Prof. Ir. I Wayan Arthana, MS, PhD, was a resource person in the Technical Guidance and Deepening of Tasks for Leaders and Members of the Regional House of Representatives Denpasar City with the theme "Supervision of Optimizing Regional Financial Management, Environment, and General Elections (PEMILU)," which was held on November 22, 2023, at the Grand Palace Hotel Sanur, Denpasar, organized by the Institute for Community Service Research and Study Center, Ngurah Rai University. Present at the event was the Chairman of the Regional House of Representatives Denpasar City, I Gusti Ngurah Gede, SH, along with the leadership and members of the Regional House of Representatives Denpasar City.
The material presented by Prof. Arthana in this technical guidance relates to environmental policy supervision. Acting as moderator was I Made Adi Swandana, SE, M.Si., who is the Secretary of the Research Institute for Community Service and Study Center, Ngurah Rai University. In his presentation, Prof. Arthana conveyed information about environmental problems in Denpasar City, the concept of sustainable development, attention to carrying capacity, supervision through EIA, attention to KLHS, enforcement of environmental regulations, and the attractiveness of the environment owned by Denpasar City, namely beaches and coastal areas. The waste problem has recently become increasingly complicated, especially after the existing final landfill in Suwung exceeded its capacity. In addition, the Suwung landfill has caught fire due to prolonged dry and hot weather. Waste management by sorting at the source between organic, non-organic, and metal waste has been hampered by many obstacles.
These obstacles include the community not being ready and transport vehicles according to the type of waste not yet available, he said. Sustainable development monitoring instruments are already available through the AMDAL and KLHS study mechanisms. Even more penetrating is not to violate boundaries, such as coastal boundaries. Another thing is not to intersect with sacred areas, mangrove forest areas, and cultural reserves. Protection of beaches and coastal areas with coral reef, seagrass, and mangrove ecosystems is no less important for Denpasar City to be intensively maintained so that it can be sustainable, concluded Arthana in the material he delivered.
