Denpasar, April 23, 2026 – The Postgraduate Program of Udayana University (UNUD) successfully hosted a mini-workshop featuring international expert Prof. Takashi Tokumasu from Tohoku University, Japan. The event, held in the UNUD Postgraduate Program auditorium, was attended by the Director of the UNUD Postgraduate Program, the Heads of Study Programs (Koprodi), and student representatives from each study program.

This workshop addresses the topic “Nanoscale Mass Transport Phenomena of Reactants in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells,” a discussion focusing on the dynamics of reactant mass transport at the nanoscale in polymer electrolyte fuel cells, a technology that plays a key role in the development of clean and efficient energy.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Suprapta Winaya, Director of the Postgraduate Program at UNUD, said, “We are deeply honored to have Prof. Tokumasu with us. We hope this mini-workshop will broaden the horizons of students and faculty regarding the latest developments in energy research.”

Prof. Tokumasu explained the core concepts in straightforward language, detailing how reactants such as hydrogen and oxygen move at the nanoscale within the electrolyte membrane, which directly affects the efficiency and performance of fuel cells. “A deep understanding of mass transport at the nanoscale is crucial for improving the performance of polymer electrolyte fuel cells. “Through this research, we can design energy systems that are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly,” he explained.

The participants seemed enthusiastic about the discussion session, with several students asking questions about mass transport simulations and the experimental methods used. One student remarked, “This workshop has given us a new perspective on how fundamental research can be applied to clean energy technology. It’s very inspiring for the development of our research projects.”

The event concluded with a group photo session and the presentation of a commemorative gift to Prof. Tokumasu as a token of appreciation. This workshop underscored the UNUD Postgraduate Program’s commitment to strengthening international collaboration and encouraging students to actively engage in cutting-edge research in the fields of energy and technology.bmp
